WE Supports The Women of Fundación Adelante
WE is supporting poor rural women starting businesses in Honduras.
On the advice of another Adelante businesswoman, Amilda Amador gathered the courage to take out a loan and start a small store.
A Small Store Changes a Family's Life
Amilda Rodríguez Amador, 30, lives with her three young daughters and husband in Intibucá, Honduras. She has used two loans from Adelante to start a pulpería, small market, off her house.
“I would never have believed it was possible to start a business until a woman came to speak with me and a few of the other women in our community,” she explained. “We all already knew her because she has a successful business selling food in the market and at community events. She told us about the Adelante Foundation and the possibility of learning to be business women and having more control in our households.”
Amilda said that the loans have changed her life. “Having a business has made me proud. My family is very supportive and happy to have more money to buy food. We are eating much better than before. I am starting to save money to buy cement for the floor of our home. Right now it is dirt and is not nice.”She is also proud of the fact that her assembly recently elected her jefa (president). “I know it is because I am passionate and excited about this change in my life. Like the woman who came and spoke to me about Adelante, I too will spread the word about Adelante.”
