A Born Leader

Juliette Ketehoundje, 33, is the leader of a group of borrowers in Zakota, Benin, who call themselves "Kpondehou," which means "take us as an example." Some women in the group grow cassava, groundnuts, and maize and others make a business storing and processing these crops.

Although she never went to school, Juliette is a natural leader and manages the group well. She also works with other epicenters at the African Woman Food Farmer Initiative to mobilize loan groups as effective as her own.
