Sunsar Maya in Nepal
Partner Since: 2026
2026 Grant Amount: $10,000
WE funds support Sunsar Maya’s Women’s Literacy Program, providing support to 300 women in Nepal, ages 18 to 70, who live in extreme poverty and have been historically excluded from formal education and economic opportunity due to entrenched gender roles, caste-based discrimination, and geographic isolation. Our grant supports literacy and skills training, hands-on vocational training, and supplies for a farming initiative. Literacy lessons in Nepali and English help women communicate confidently and participate more fully in their communities. Numeracy skills are taught through budgeting, shopping, and managing household expenses, enabling women to make informed financial decisions and gain employment. Additionally, vocational training (e.g., in soap-making, tailoring, and business skills) and a farming initiative equip women with practical, income-generating skills helping them build financial independence and provide access to affordable, nutritious food.
